SG Energy Solutions provided critical electrical and instrumentation support at the Hermiston Generating Plant in Oregon, helping coordinate upgrades tied to turbine diffuser changeout and generator preparation. Working alongside mechanical teams under a tight schedule, our team ensured electrical readiness and signal continuity in confined, operational spaces.
Scope of Work
- Removal of all instrumentation required for diffuser changeout, including bearing vibration, thermocouples, and fire detection devices
- Exhaust thermocouples and third stage wheel space sensors routed through bearing tunnels
- De-termination of Unit 1 Gas & Steam Turbine main and neutral leads
- Preparation and staging for Unit 1 Gas Turbine Generator major electrical scope
Electrical installation and changeover supported the mechanical upgrade while maintaining operational continuity.
Challenges
Work was performed in multiple confined spaces with a compressed timeline for gas turbine completion. Additionally, SG Energy was tasked with assisting mechanical execution and was authorized to begin pre-installation electrical work on steam turbine externals while the unit remained online, requiring careful coordination to maintain safety and avoid unnecessary shutdowns.
Solutions
SG Energy applied disciplined electrical execution and close onsite coordination with mechanical staff to ensure the project stayed on schedule and integrated seamlessly. Pre-installation conduit runs, panel mounting, and instrumentation staging reduced the risk of delays and supported timely readiness for generator commissioning.
