La Paloma Generating

SG Energy Solutions supported electrical and controls engineering upgrades at the La Paloma Generating Co. facility near McKittrick, California, enhancing system connectivity and performance across multiple GT24 gas turbines. The work included new conduit runs, junction box installations, and device validation in support of a low part-load upgrade with minimal historical project precedent.

Scope of Work

  • Installing new conduit runs, low and high voltage wiring, control boxes, and junction boxes
  • Installing system devices and electrical connections to the main power feed and control room
  • Validating device operation to meet design specifications

The project supported four Alstom GT24 gas turbines and was completed under an investor electrical upgrades contract valued at approximately $2.2M.

Challenges

This upgrade was the second of its kind in North America, meaning limited prior project knowledge existed for the low part-load configuration. SG Energy team members bridged that gap through proactive learning, coordination with site teams, and structured on-site training before and during execution.

Solutions

To prepare installers and trades for the unique scope, SG Energy delivered daily training sessions, supplemental videos, photos, and detailed red-lined electrical drawings. This preparation ensured team readiness, consistent execution quality, and alignment with project goals, enabling successful integration and system validation.
