Key Focus Areas of SG Cares
Literacy Support and Enrichment Literacy is foundational to personal and economic growth, yet many communities face a gap in educational resources. SG Cares is helping close the literacy gap in Detroit and other urban areas, supporting organizations like Beyond Basics, which provides one-on-one reading interventions. Selam Sanders, an SG Energy leader, serves on the board of Beyond Basics, championing the cause and working tirelessly to unlock the doors of literacy for underserved children. Our literacy programs are about creating equal opportunities and opening up worlds of possibility for young learners.
Autism Awareness and Support Understanding autism and the challenges faced by individuals and families dealing with this neurodevelopmental disorder is another pillar of our mission. Through autism awareness initiatives, SG Cares works to promote inclusion and provide resources to support those on the autism spectrum. For Selam Sanders, this cause is close to her heart, as her younger brother’s experiences with autism have inspired her dedication to raising awareness and fostering empathy. SG Cares is committed to building a more inclusive community by educating and supporting families affected by autism.
Youth Sports and Amateur Athletics Sports have the power to transform young lives, teaching invaluable lessons in teamwork, leadership, and resilience. Derron Sanders, inspired by his own childhood experiences in youth sports, has made it a personal mission to support and promote athletic programs for children and teens. Through SG Cares, we provide resources and opportunities for young athletes, helping them build confidence, forge connections, and develop skills that go beyond the playing field.
SG Cares in Action
Our team members at SG Energy Solutions take an active role in these initiatives, from hands-on volunteering to organizing fundraisers. We’re proud to offer paid time off for employees who want to volunteer, and we encourage our team to participate in our SG Cares Supported Initiatives throughout the year.
